Vent Covers: Tips For Cleaning Your Vent Covers
Oct 15, 2015
Nothing is more telling that you've not been cleaning like you should like the dust halos that infamously surround your dirty air conditioning and heat vent covers. Not only does this show that you aren't dusting, they are also incredibly telling that you haven't been changing your filters like you should be. Thankfully, you can quickly get rid of these telling signs. All you need to do is regularly maintain your vents — specifically, the main intake vent and the small ones. Here at Vent Covers Unlimited, we're here to offer you some simple steps that will not only keep those vent covers in tip-top shape, but also increase the efficiency of your air conditioning and heating unit and reduce allergens at the same time.
Clean your vents monthly! Before you clean your vents, make sure you turn off the heat or air conditioning. If your home's ceiling vents are especially dirty, we suggest protecting your furniture by covering the area below the vent with plastic or a sheet. Next, vacuum those dirty vents using a a microfiber extensible duster or dusting brush attachment. If you don't have either, you can easily wipe the vents and ceiling fans with a dry microfiber cloth. Don't forget to change your filter monthly, too!
Two times a year, we suggest removing small vent covers and cleaning them. These vent covers will likely be full of dust on both the inside and the outside, so be prepared. To clean your small vent covers, we suggest placing the vent covers in a sink filled with warm, soapy water. You may need to let them soak a bit. Then, wash the vents with a microfiber cloth. Don't soak vent covers too long or scrub them too hard because the paint can come off.
One last point to make: Ensure your vent covers are totally dry before you re-install them, otherwise, dust particles will cling to the wet vent slats and undo all of your hard work.
