In the unlikely event that you need to return your order email us at email@example.com. You will receive a return authorization number from us that is required to return your order. Please do not attempt to return an item without a return authorization number. We offer a 30-day return policy from the date you receive your order. Your return is subject to a 15% restocking fee.

- The Steel Design Series registers and returns are custom items and not returnable.
Always Measure the size of the duct or vent rough opening and NOT your exisiting vent cover.
Measure the size of the duct opening (length & width). The outside dimensions vary depending on the size and style chosen but range from about 1-1/4" to 2" greater on both length and width. For example, the typical outside measurements of a 4x10 register would be 5-1/4" x 11-1/4".

Surface Style Register Installation
Surface Style Registers are also called “drop-in” vents, because they literally drop into the duct hole in the floor. You simply remove the old vent and replace with your vent. These are the most common applications.
Flush Mount Register Installation
Flush Mount Registers may be installed into your flooring when you are initially laying the wood or laminate floor, or they may be retrofitted into an existing floor.
We provide detailed instructions for measuring and installing the flush mount frame when laying a new hardwood floor. This includes measuring the duct size, determining space from wall boards and butting flooring panels to the vent frame, sanding the frame with the flooring and staining/finishing the vent to match the flooring.
We provide instructions for retrofitting a flush style frame into an existing wood floor, including the option to purchase the routing bit, corner chisel and template you will need to complete this task.
Baseboard and Slab style Register Installation
Baseboard and Slab style registers sit on the floor up against the wall. These may be secured to the wall in a variety of methods (screws, nails, Velcro tape), dependent upon the need and/or frequency to access the duct work behind or below the vent.
Wall, Ceiling, and Toe-Kick Registers
Wall & Ceiling and Toe-kick registers are mounted into a wall, ceiling or inserted into a cabinet, stair riser or other framed structure. These may be secured to the wall, ceiling or structure in a variety of methods (screws, nails, Velcro tape), dependent upon the need and/or frequency to access the duct work behind the vent.
Return Air Filter Frames
These units, typically mounted on the wall or ceiling, allow easy access to change the filter because they are hinged. These are measured simply by the size of the filter. For example a filter size of 20" x 20" would require a 20" x 20" return air filter frame.
A register has a damper to control the flow of air while a grille or air return does not have a damper to control air flow. Most of our grilles allow you to add a damper or louver and all “registers” include a damper.
A damper or louver is a section attached to the bottom of the grill that allows the flow of air to be reduced or closed off completely (see picture above). Our dampers, also called a diffuser, are made of high grade aluminum to make them rust proof. They are removable if you only need an air-return or for cleaning. All registers come with a damper while returns or grilles do not.
All products you receive will arrive factory sanded and unfinished. If your register has a damper attached, remove the damper prior to finishing.
DO NOT WET your product at any time during the finishing process. Water-based stains, sealers and finishes are not recommended.
To finish your product, sand all surfaces lightly with 150 grit sandpaper. DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL as it tends to shed fibers that stick in the wood grain and may foul a smooth finish. After sanding, use a tack cloth or compressed air to remove the sand particles from the product – do not wet the product to remove sanding dust.
If staining, use an oil-base stain on all surfaces. If you are using more than one coat of stain, you do not need to sand in between coats of stain.
When completely dry after staining, apply two (2) coats of oil-based sanding sealer to all surfaces (top, bottom, sides, ends, between slots). Failure to cover all natural wood surfaces may result in product warping. Allow to dry thoroughly between coats of sealer. Use 220 grit sandpaper to sand all surfaces after each coat – remove sand particles from product with tack cloth or compressed air after each coat.
Apply 2 – 3 coats of high quality oil-based finish coat (lacquer, varnish, urethane, etc.) to all surfaces (top, bottom, sides, ends, between slots) – follow the manufacturer’s instructions on application, sanding between coats, etc.
Your local paint and stain retailer can assist you with selection of the materials needed to finish your product. Proper finishing is required to prevent scratching, warping and yellowing.

When you login to your account and see "awaiting shipment" it can mean one of a few things.
1) Your order will ship in 2-5 business days.
2) Your order is being manufactured and will ship anywhere from 2-6 weeks later depending on the product you ordered. Each product has varying lead times that are noted on the category page and/or the product page. 5-7 business days after purchase you will receive an email from us with an approximate ship date for your order.
3) You ordered an item that is out of stock. The lead time for out of stock items varies from product to product.
